8. Using SQEE Manual Decryption Service

8.1. Feature Overview

The SQEE Manual Decryption Service allows users to manually decrypt SafeQuard-encrypted email messages and attachments that have been copied or downloaded from their inbox.

This is useful when you want to decrypt an encrypted email without using the automatic decryption feature in your email client.

8.2. Manual Decryption Instructions

8.2.1. Decrypting an Email Message

Follow these steps to decrypt an encrypted email message:

  1. Open the email containing the SafeQuard-encrypted message.

  2. Locate the encrypted message content, which is enclosed between the following markers:

    -----BEGIN SAFEQUARD ENCRYPTED MESSAGE-----
    ...
    -----END SAFEQUARD ENCRYPTED MESSAGE-----

  3. Copy the entire encrypted message, the beginning and ending markers are not required.

Make sure you copy all the content between the markers without omitting any characters or lines (Triple Click to select all).

  4. Open the SQEE Manual Decryption Service.

  5. Paste the copied encrypted message into the message input field.

  6. Click the Decrypt button to begin decryption.

  7. Once decryption is complete, review the decrypted message displayed by the service.

8.2.2. Decrypting an Email Attachment

SafeQuard-encrypted attachments are provided as .pqenc files. To decrypt an attachment:

  1. Locate the encrypted attachment in the email.

  2. Download the .pqenc file to your device.

  3. Open the SQEE Manual Decryption Service.

  4. Navigate to the attachment decryption section.

  5. Upload the downloaded .pqenc file.

  6. Click the Decrypt button to begin decryption.

  7. Once decryption is complete, download the decrypted attachment and open it using the appropriate application.

8.3. Important Notes

  • Message and Attachment can decrypt together: If the message and attachment comes from the same email, decryption works together.

  • Use the original encrypted attachment: Upload the downloaded .pqenc file without modifying its contents or renaming its extension.

  • Access requirements: Decryption requires the appropriate authorization and access to the SQEE decryption service.

8.4. Troubleshooting

The message cannot be decrypted

  • Verify that the complete encrypted message, including both markers, was copied.

  • Check that no content was accidentally removed or modified.

  • Retry using the original encrypted message.

The attachment cannot be decrypted

  • Verify that the downloaded file has the .pqenc extension.

  • Ensure the file was downloaded completely and has not been modified.

  • Retry using the original encrypted attachment.

Decryption fails or the service is unavailable

  • Verify that you have access to the SQEE decryption service.

  • Retry after confirming that the service is available.

  • Contact your administrator or support team if the issue persists.
